Chuck Dowd was a participant of Hamilton’s 3-2 program, transferring to Columbia University after his junior year to study Electrical Engineering. Just before transferring, he married Barbara Van Dusen (Cazenovia ‘65); together, the two moved to New York City, Barbara working while Chuck studied. After receiving his BSEE from Columbia and BA from Hamilton, Chuck was off to the University of Rochester to acquire his MBA in Finance/Marketing.
The couple welcomed their first son, Charles III, in 1968, followed by daughters Cindy and Katy in 1970 and 1973, respectively. Chuck finished his MBA in 1969, and went on to a career in corporate strategic planning, product development, marketing, sales, and general management for NYSE manufacturing firms such as Litton Industries, Rockwell International, Magic Chef, Maytag, and Masco. Some highlights include becoming the President of Admiral Corporation (Division of Maytag Corp.) and President of Delta Faucet Co. (Division of Masco Corp.). Chuck retired from Masco Corp. as the Group President in 2006, and continued to serve on the Board of Directors for several private manufacturing companies and as a Trustee of Sierra Nevada College, located in Incline Village, Nevada, near Lake Tahoe, where he now resides.
Sadly, Barbara passed away in 2013 after 48 happy years of marriage. With God’s grace, he met a lovely woman, Dr. Sue Maturlo, likewise widowed, on a March 2015 Hamilton trip to Cuba. They were married on October 24, 2015.
